History & Succession

Wills Wing was founded in 1973 by Chris and Bob Wills as Sport Kites, Inc. Since 1977, the company was managed by Rob Kells, Mike Meier, Linda Meier, and Steven Pearson as managing partners and shareholders. Chris Wills remained a shareholder and Board of Directors member throughout the company's history. Sport Kites, Inc. dba Wills Wing was dissolved in 2025.

All intellectual property — including copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, product designs, technical documentation, and original content — was created by Steven Pearson and Mike Meier. Steven served as the principal design engineer from 1977, sharing development with Mike Meier and Rob Kells until Rob's passing in 2008. All IP rights are retained by Steven Pearson and Mike Meier as creators and successor rights holders.

Wills Wing Mexico

Wills Wing Mexico (willswing.org) was originally established with setup support from Wills Wing USA to serve the ongoing needs of Wills Wing customers. Steven Pearson initially joined as a partner and directed factory configuration, setup, and production development. He has since sold his interest and is no longer associated with Wills Wing Mexico. The company was subsequently acquired and reorganized as a successor corporation under new ownership.

Wills Wing Mexico is authorized to use the "Wills Wing" name and to manufacture and sell Wills Wing hang glider designs.

No Wills Wing USA intellectual property has been sold, assigned, or transferred to Wills Wing Mexico or its successor. Wills Wing Mexico did not participate in the development of any Wills Wing intellectual property. All intellectual property rights, including the "Wills Wing" trademarks and all product designs, remain the property of Steven Pearson and Mike Meier.

Open Source Hardware Designs

Certain Wills Wing hang glider designs, documentation, and related materials have been released as open-source hardware under the CERN Open Hardware License Version 2 — Permissive (CERN-OHL-P v2) and are available at github.com/Pearson00/WillsWing.

This license applies only to the design files in that repository. It does not grant any rights to use Wills Wing trademarks, branding, or other intellectual property not included in that repository. Per CERN-OHL-P v2 Section 4, anyone producing hardware based on these designs must maintain the Source Location visible on the product.

The source code for this website (HTML templates, build scripts, CSS, and JavaScript) is available on GitHub under the MIT License. This license applies only to the website infrastructure code, not to any Wills Wing content, trademarks, photographs, or other intellectual property displayed on this site.

Social Media

The Wills Wing social media accounts linked on this site — including Facebook (facebook.com/willswing), Instagram (instagram.com/willswing), and YouTube (youtube.com/FLYWillsWing) — are solely owned and managed by Steven Pearson. They are not affiliated with or managed by Wills Wing Mexico or any other entity.
