Wills Wing Spring 2000 Demo Schedule

The good flying season is finally here! We have contracted with Bo Hagewood to do a northeast demo tour. Bo is a very experienced pilot, with tandem instructor and ATP ratings. He will have Fusions, Ultra Sports, Eagles, Falcons and Swing Arcus paragliders to demo at the following locations:

The New Wills Wing Eagle

Is It The Best Hang Glider We’ve Ever Made?

When you consider that we’ve produced almost twenty thousand gliders over the last 27 years, including 29 different model lines in a total of 84 sizes, and including gliders that have won numerous national and international championships and set numerous world records, it may seem somewhat bold to suggest that the Eagle is the best hang glider we’ve ever made.

But then again, it may just be true.

What, after all, defines the “best” in a hang glider? Well, it should be fun to fly – because those of us who actually buy gliders inevitably are flying for the fun of it. It should have good soaring capability – even when the lift is weak or inconsistent – because soaring is what we want to do when we fly. It should be undemanding, and have a natural tendency to do the right thing, because fighting an aircraft to make it do what you want against its will is not fun, but working in harmony with a wing that feels more like an extension of yourself most certainly is. It should have good performance – it doesn’t need a super L/D and blazing speed (if it did, the best hang glider would be a sailplane), but it does need to be able to move forward into the wind with reasonable efficiency, and to be able to reach any landing area within a reasonable distance.

The Eagle is a medium performance, double surface glider that is exceptionally easy and remarkably fun to fly. It has very impressive sink rate and climb performance, slows down exceptionally well, and is very comfortable and confidence inspiring in turbulent air. Its maximum glide ratio and glide at speed are pleasantly surprising in a glider that is this easy to fly. It is the type of glider that quite simply makes you a better pilot, and makes flying more enjoyable – whatever your skill and experience level.

The Eagle comes configured to be able to be flown with or without the keel mounted stabilizer, and a stabilizer is included with the glider. Without the stabilizer, the Eagle requires a technical skill level midway between that required by the Falcon and Ultra Sport. It offers a better sink rate than the Falcon, and a dramatically better L/D at higher speeds. With the stabilizer mounted, the Eagle becomes remarkably more docile and easy to fly, and is every bit as resistant to roll / yaw oscillations as the Falcon. Because of it’s higher glide ratio, the Eagle does require more skill than a Falcon in setting up an accurate landing approach, though it remains significantly easier to land than any glider of higher, or even comparable performance.

Is it the best we’ve ever made? Why not catch a ride on one. Then you decide!

Windsports Re-opens Dockweiler Beach!

Condor Training Glider

Breakthrough In Providing Easy First Flight Experiences For Students

Steve Pearson has designed a huge (330 square feet) very light (52 pound) training hill glider which allows for easy first training flights in very light to zero winds with very low ground speeds. The Condor takes off and flies at such a slow speed that the instructor can walk beside the glider while his student is flying – which makes the training experience much less intimidating and also significantly safer. Because flying speeds are so slow, and the flight characteristics are so gentle and well damped, there is very little chance of any sort of significant impact. The handling of the Condor is very docile and forgiving, and its surprising level of gliding performance allows for extended ground skimming flights from a very small and shallow slope. During evaluation of the first Condor prototype, two 75 year old students were trained successfully and safely. We believe that making the first days of learning easier for students will help to increase the number of people participating in the sport of hang gliding.

Please contact Wills Wing if you are interested in including the Condor in your flight training program.
